Key Responsibilities
- Reports to the Commercial Operations Director
- Manages the purchase of ferrous and non-ferrous steel commodities for a specific area or processing facility
- Oversees daily activities and performance of the buyer team
- Ensures buyer activities align with the regional monthly “Buy Plan”
- Drives business growth by identifying new markets and expanding supplier sources
- Ensures buyers provide weekly reports on supplier contacts, inventory, and concerns
- Trains buyers to use the Material Processing System (SAI)
- Evaluates buyer team performance, including material purchases, supplier performance, and profitability
- Collaborates to set commodity pricing strategies and resolve supplier disputes
- Focuses on increasing market share while maintaining high-quality product delivery and profitability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Business Administration preferred; 5+ years of outside sales experience a plus
- Relevant metals recycling industry experience with 7–10 years of field experience may substitute for education
- Experience with grading both ferrous and nonferrous metals is desired
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive required
- Strong supervisory and customer service skills
- Proficiency in Windows XP/Microsoft Office (including Outlook)
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy, basic typing and 10-key skills
- Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions
- Regional travel required
