DIRECTOR OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Build and lead a modern engineering org at a high-growth insurtech

Our client, a rapidly growing insurtech company modernizing core systems for the property & casualty industry, is looking for a Director of Software Engineering to build and lead their internal development team. DIRECTOR OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING BENEFITS

DIRECTOR OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING REQUIREMENTS

  • 12+ years of software development experience, with 5+ years in engineering leadership
  • Experience building and scaling high-performing development teams
  • Strong technical background (backend or full-stack) with cloud-native/serverless architecture (AWS)
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Comfortable in dynamic environments; able to manage complex personalities and reset team dynamics
  • Experience in property & casualty insurance or insurtech a plus

DIRECTOR OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and scale an internal development team, transitioning work from nearshore partners
  • Set engineering standards, define processes, and ensure delivery excellence across the SDLC
  • Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders to drive successful outcomes
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and oversee implementation in a modern tech stack (React, Node.js, DynamoDB, AWS Lambda, etc.)
  • Manage both full-time engineers and third-party development resources
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and innovation
