According to National Restaurant News, Denny’s expects highest annual same-store sales growth in a decade!

In 1953, Harold Butler and Richard Jezak decided to open a restaurant in Lakewood, CA, called Danny’s Donuts. After they had established a few chains, Jezak left and Butler took over with some ideas of his own. He first recognized another coffee shop down the road named Coffee Dan’s, and decided that to differentiate his brand he would rename it Denny’s. In 1967 the restaurant went international opening it’s first Denny’s restaurant in Acapulco, Mexico, and in 1981 Denny’s officially opened its 1,000th restaurant across the nation. Today there are over 1,700 Denny’s dedicated to upholding the same promise that Butler made all those years ago; “To serve the best cup of coffee, make the best donuts, give the best service, offer the best value, and stay open 24 hours a day.”

Denny’s truly is America’s diner, and is open for breakfast 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But don’t let their popular breakfast fool you, they also serve up some classic lunch and dinner dishes including slow-cooked pot roast, fish and chips, and juicy burgers. Recently Nation’s Restaurant News wrote a piece highlighting the growth that Denny’s has seen over the past year. According to the article, Denny’s Corporation is expected to end fiscal 2015 with its highest annual same-store sales growth in more than a decade. This would be the fifth consecutive year of positive annual same-store sales growth for the restaurant chain, exemplifying how some positive changes have made a huge impact.

Denny’s president and CEO, John Miller, gives big thanks to Spartanburg, South Carolina’s chain brand for revitalizing their strategy to focus on improving food, service, and atmosphere. Running with this idea, Denny’s renovated roughly 32%, or 1,710 restaurants, to follow the new “Heritage” design. They plan on continuing to transform Denny’s brand, expanding their global reach. If their last five years is any prediction of what their future will hold, Denny’s is in great shape.
