Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for communications systems, including SCADA, tele-protection, and telecommunications. Ensures compliance with industry standards, oversees design contractors, maintains communication standards, and mentors team members.
Principal Communications Engineer Responsibilities
- Leads communication system design, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Oversees system implementation and operation.
- Maintains and updates company communication standards.
- Manages contractors to ensure project alignment.
- Mentors engineers and promotes professional growth.
- Integrates emerging technologies into standards.
- Collaborates with other disciplines for seamless integration.
- Optimizes workflows and enhances system security.
- Represents communications in technical and compliance matters.
- Contributes to project planning and development.
- Engages with industry organizations to stay current.
Principal Communications Engineer Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master’s preferred.
- PE license in Indiana and Illinois preferred.
- 10+ years with a Master’s or 15+ years with a Bachelor’s in communications engineering.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Project management and customer service focus.
- Adaptability to evolving technologies.
- Advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in communication design tools.
- Expertise in SCADA, telecommunications, and automation.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity, networking, and RTUs.
